Glossary of Faith & Tradition

The words of our faith, explained through our Tenets of Belief, bylaws, and original Wolf Pack writings.

Here we explain the words we use in our Tenets of Belief, Law Speaker and bylaws, and original Wolf Pack writings. These meanings belong to our faith, our ancestral inheritance, and the religious life we share.

Ask and Embla

Our ancestors from whom we are descended, gifted life by our gods. We understand our ancestry and the open practice of our faith through this descent.

Read with: Tenets 1 and 12.

Blot

A sacred ritual through which we exchange energy with our gods and communicate with our gods and ancestors. Through blot we renew the bonds between our gods and our folk.

Read with: Tenet 13; ALU – Understanding Its Sacred Principles.

Folk

Our people, joined through our ancestral heritage, religious inheritance, traditions, and culture. Our families, kindreds, and tribes carry this inheritance forward.

Read with: Tenets 3, 6, and 8.

Frith and Grith

The peace, strength, and security of our shared community. We preserve frith through our conduct toward one another and the peace we maintain at our ceremonies and gatherings.

Read with: Tenet 9; Law Speaker: Politics and Restrictions.

Hamingja

The ancestral soul shared within our family and passed from generation to generation. Our original teachings also describe hamingja as a guardian spirit and part of our soul, connecting us through our familial line to our ancestors and to luck in life.

Read with: Tenet 3; Avoiding Things That Effect The Connection To Your Hamingja.

Honor

Integrity in our words and actions. We uphold our commitments, follow our moral codes, and live forthrightly. Our conduct carries consequences for ourselves and the families and kindreds we represent.

Read with: Tenets 10–12; Law Speaker: Representation.

Kindred

A group of houses joined in our religious life and accountable within our coalition. Our kindreds have their own leadership, responsibilities, and bylaws, with their formation and recognition governed by our Law Speaker.

Read with: Law Speaker: Kindreds and Positions.

Kirke

Our church, through which we preserve our ancient folk soul in belief, practice, tradition, and culture. We promote what benefits our families and the broader folk.

Read with: Tenet 6.

Natural Law

The natural order we recognize throughout existence. We affirm Natural Law alongside Wyrd, and understand the continuing cycle of life and death and the uniqueness of living things within that order.

Read with: Tenets 4, 7, and 8.

Norns

The powers whose rules Wyrd follows, together with each person’s Orlog. We use the name in speaking of fate and the web connecting all things.

Read with: Tenet 11: definition of Wyrd.

Orlog

Fate set in motion through the events of our lives, which are themselves set in motion by the lives of our ancestors. Our success or failure in following our most important virtues affects our Orlog. We believe that when we are in the right, Orlog itself will shape the Wyrd of the universe.

Read with: Tenet 11.

Pan-Teutonic

The breadth of our religious inheritance across the Northern European pantheons, including Norse, Anglo-Saxon, and Teutonic traditions. We use this word to describe the faith we share.

Polytheistic

Belief in many gods and goddesses. We honor the gods and goddesses of the Northern European pantheons.

Wyrd

The force of fate that permeates existence: a mystical web of energy connecting all things and following the rules of the Norns and each person’s Orlog.
